Long ago, Lord Krishna and Sudama were good friends in their Guru’s ashram. After their studies, life took different turns—Krishna became the mighty king of Dwaraka, while Sudama remained a poor Brahmin. Sudama lived in a small hut with his wife and children. They often had very little food to eat. One day, Sudama’s wife gently said, “Please go to your friend Krishna. He will surely help us.” Though Sudama felt shy, he finally agreed. With great love, he carried a small bag of rice—the only gift he could offer—to meet his friend. When Sudama reached Krishna’s palace, the guards stopped him. But as soon as Krishna heard his name, he ran barefoot to welcome his dear friend. Krishna hugged Sudama warmly, washed his feet, and took him inside with great respect. Krishna lovingly ate the rice Sudama had brought and spent a long time talking with him. In the evening, Sudama quietly left without asking for any help. But when he reached home, Sudama was surprised—his small hut had turned into a beautiful house, and his family wore new clothes. Krishna had understood his needs without being asked. Sudama felt blessed to have such a true friend. Moral: A true friend helps selflessly. We should always love and care for our friends.
